Living in Downtown DC

We visited a block in a neighborhood not far from us. We found quite an enjoyable bar, a restaurant, a used clothing shop and a comedy club/jazz club.

Rock Creek is an amazing park and spring is a good time to explore it. You can see things that the leaves normally hide. I like to look at the trees without leaves and figure out what type of tree it is. There are lots of people exercising and enjoying nature all the time, but there are still little nooks to find escape in. It is mainly very quiet. For bicycling there is a long stretch of road to ride that is about half car-free all weekend. There is even at least one horse stable and some horse trails. Something for everyone. On the Maryland side is the old Audobon Nature Center.

Up above the main trail - this is a hiking trail in Rock Creek park in the city of Washington, DC. It's the oldest and largest urban park in the country. Currently, during the pandemic, many of the internal roads are gated off from motor vehicles. Otherwise there is heavy traffic on the main small road through the park. Having ridden through the park many times over the 50 years I've lived in the area I highly recommend it for hiking and biking. Without the motor vehicles it's even better. It's a national park so it is well designed and well maintained.

Violettes Lock on the C&O Canal - this location was recommended to me by a photographer I met on Facebook. The Potomac river is very wide at this point with some rapids. There are just a few parking spots at the lock. For reference, the C&O canal runs from DC to Harpers Fairy, WV. It was used 100 years ago to ship goods and materials to and from the city. Now mainly it's a thoroughfare for hikers and bikers. The expanse is also excellent for birding and kayaking.
