Bangwad Dam straight

Prom Thep Cape

This is the southern end of the island

It is a rough hike but very popular. Mostly young people are out. The top is very crowded, then it thins out as you descend toward the point. The water you're on the edge of is the Andaman sea and Bay of Bengal. You can't avoid exposure to the wind and sun. There are just a few trees and lots of rocks. We passed Nai Harn and Rawai on the way down. The weather was windy, cloudy and rain was coming in as we left. We stopped to eat at a restaurant in Rawai on the way back. The food was not memorable but the atmosphere and eating on the promenade were wonderful.

As a park it's rough out on the trail. The parking and entrance are not well marked in English. There are a couple parking lots - one is at an overlook from which we took a panoramic picture. The other parking lot was at a tourist place off the road. To get there from Chalong we went south on the main road toward Rawai. After that the road curled around by the beach. We weren't clear about where exactly we were but we didn't waste too much time. There was a huge concrete platform deck that overlooked the point and a variety of ocean perches clinging to mountains around us.

This was one of our last adventures in Thailand. We visited the southern tip of Phuket called Prom Thep cape. Rawai is a resort nearby. It's south of Chalong. The park is a point facing south. There is a sculpture garden of elephants from various gifts from other Asian countries sitting atop a steep hill overlooking the point. It's a gorgeous view of the rocky point. You can see another side of the Big Buddha from there as well. From the garden area there is a stairway leading down to the trail and then... good luck! The rest is natural. At certain points it is very steep. Someone put up those cool stacked stone cairns. I'm not sure the meaning or who put them up but the stones are definitely bountiful.
